Up Close and Personal

By Thad Whittenburg

I was thinking the other day that all the blogs I’ve written over the last year have been focused on what others should do to improve their business.

Well, it’s probably a good time to share the things that I need to work on this year. The beginning of a new year is a great time to take inventory of your goals and what areas you need to improve to achieve them.

So here we go with my list:

  1. Health – It may seem funny to have that as my top goal, but I am a firm believer that taking care of yourself is extremely important. A healthy body leads to a stronger mind and extra energy. More and more studies say that exercise is one of the best ways to help your brain function at a higher level, so 5 times a week I will be making sure to work out. It goes without saying that eating right needs to be part of this plan.
  2. Happiness and Attitude – Our jobs can be overwhelming at times and the stress can cause us to lose sight of the fact that every day is a gift of life. When we view our jobs, we shouldn’t look at it as work but as something we are doing to accomplish goals and become better at what we do for a living. Even though I love what I do, I need to make sure that I remind myself of that on a regular basis. It absolutely needs to be fun, positive, and have a lot of high energy! As a friend once told me (and I’ll never forget it) “This day will never come again so make the most of it.”
  3. Learning –I always want to make sure that I have the mindset of being a student. We often get caught up in going down a path that we know well and feel comfortable with because that’s what we’ve always done. If I don’t challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone, I won’t be able to help others do the same. Lack of change leads to limited growth and stagnation in our personal development. I need to make sure that I am not only learning every day but applying those lessons to my work and life. We always ask others to change and improve but we need to start with ourselves.

I’m committing to myself and to you to read 12 business books this year and share the takeaways in my blogs. Always keep in mind that the better student you become, the better teacher you’ll be prepared to be.

I would love to hear back from you on what you will be working on in 2019. Thanks for reading this and hopefully it will give you some ideas on how to challenge yourself more this year.

Don’t forget to sign up for our Kitchen and Bath Systems (KABS) demo’s this week. Due to the overwhelmingly positive response, we have set up group demos every Thursday at 1:00 PM EST and Friday at 10:00 am EST, or feel free to visit our website to request an individual demo at any time. https://kabstech.com/
